Franchise Facts

What is the business? Musical Signers specialise in teaching Baby Signing - a pre-verbal communication system for babies and toddlers. We teach (mostly) hearing babies and their parents/carers some simple sign language which enables them to communicate before baby can talk. This can relieve frustration, reduce tantrums and encourage parental bonding.

Some of our franchises also teach Deaf Awareness to pre-schools, playgroups or nurseries.
Investment required: The initial fee is £1,200.

This includes:

  • Our start-up kit containing marketing materials, stationery, teaching aids (lesson plans, books, puppets, CD's, musical instruments etc etc), uniform, use of our name and logo etc
  • CRB check
  • Training and support
  • Solicitors fees to draw up a contract supporting your interests aswell as ours
  • Your own territory in which to operate

On-going commitments:

£250 per year (starting after you've completed your first 12 months). 50% of this pays for the continued use of our name and logo. The other 50% will be used to promote "Musical Signers" which will benefit all franchises. This fee can be paid in monthly installments.
Earning Potential: Earning potential is variable depending on the number of hours you wish to teach. You can work anything from 2 - 40 hours per week, either term-time only or all year round. Teaching six Baby Signing classes a week could generate up to £1,440 a month.

Some franchises can obtain additional income by teaching Deaf Awareness or Basic Sign Language.

Is there training/support for franchisees? We want all of our franchises to succeed. After completion of initial training, you will still be eligible for support via phone, e-mail or in person (if required). There will also be periodical refresher training for those interested.
Best suited to: Musical Signers would suit:
  • Someone wanting to be their own boss
  • Someone wanting flexible hours to fit around other commitments (eg. children)
  • Someone wanting to work within childcare
  • Someone wishing to use their signing skills. All our franchise owners must have a minimum of British Sign Language level 1, although futher training will be given. Those wishing to teach Deaf Awareness must have EITHER Edexcel CSW certificate or British Sign Language level 3.
