Cool Clothes for Cool Kids!

Stardust Kids (www.stardustkids.co.uk) was founded in 1998 by Geraldine Homewood, mother of two. Initially selling pop icon greeting cards and cufflinks, the arrival of Geraldine's first child in 2000 inspired her to create a children's wear range that reflected her own passion for popular culture iconography. Read Geraldine's thoughts about how the business has grown below, and about the fantastic selling opportunity the company has created for mums:

Stardust"We founded Stardust in 1998 and over 10 years have created a family orientated collection of women's clothes, retro greeting cards, accessories and children's wear with a difference. Inspired by popular culture iconography, punk rock and a splash of kitsch this range is adding some pizzazz and panache to young families everywhere. Our first big break came when Stardust's 'Baby Punk' items were featured at the Vivienne Westwood exhibition at the V&A Museum in 2004. From this auspicious beginning our collection has gone on to be stocked in over 200 shops worldwide including of course our flagship store in South London."

Last year the company launched a new party plan scheme. It gives mums the chance to set up a profitable business with low entry costs, low overheads, high commissions and the ability to work around family commitments. Nearly 200 agents have signed up to this scheme and are selling the collection at 'home parties' in and around their communities. Unlike most party plan schemes, the Stardust Kids approach offers its sellers 50% commission, the same mark up offered to retailers. It costs as little as £40 to start up with telephone training and online support provided, and all orders are managed online so paperwork is kept to a mimimum.

Geraldine wanted to offer mums a way to make extra money in their spare time that fits around their family commitments, is easily affordable to get started and doesn't have masses of form filling and redtape. In her words, "I don't see why mums selling my products should earn any less than my retailers do, so mums will receive the same 50% discount offered to my wholesale customers, making each sale extremely profitable for them."

"Our range appeals as much to Mums and Dads as it does the kids. Just because you become a parent, it doesn't mean you immediately have to lose your former identity and morph into twin-sets and pearls or suit and tie. Indeed, our fantastic range allows parents to pass on their sense of urban rebellion to their kids with fashions that are way too cool for school!"
