Working from home works!!
In 2006 I decided that I no longer wanted to be torn away from my family working in the evening and I wanted a job where I could still be there for the kids during the day, I solved this dilemma by taking on the position of Sales Person for What's On 4.
I love the fact that I can work from home, be there for my kids and feel that I am contributing to our household income (I never wanted to be labelled with the dreaded word 'housewife'). Of course you need to be disciplined and very organised, but the sense of achievement is unrivaled. With Beth and Benn growing up now they both take an active roll helping out with my work, this helps establish a really good work ethic from an early age and I have Beth as my office colleague during the holidays, she's happy to sit next to me on her computer and mirror what I am doing, as long as we can listen to her choice of music! I hope that this encourages anybody who is considering working from home, although there are alot of scams out there, there are also alot of very genuine opportunities. Give it a try, it was the best thing I ever did! |

RE: Working from home works!!
Working from Home really Does work ....................
Thought I would add my comments to Dizzy's - my "coffee-drinking" work colleague......see just because you work from home doesn't mean you are alone......Dizzy and I often run ideas past each other and get that banter that makes the harder days easier!!!! Being one of the older ( dare I say it) ones..I have tried and tested lots of opportunities as I always love a challenge and learning something new....working for Whats On 4 for Sam has allowed me to do this, earn and be there for my 2 gorgeous children. Im there to pick them up from school, take them to clubs and eat together and when they are at school or in bed I can work! There is always a crossover and I think it is good for my children to learn that mummy works as well as caring for them, they are getting to the age now where they can help ( In their own way!!) and I believe its a great life lesson for them and like a "Visit Mummy or Daddy at work day" - everyday !! Have confidence in your skills and try it - Good Luck Erica x |

RE: Working from home works!!
Hi. I've been doing Usborne Books for over 6 yeras now, and will never leave! It's so flexible and I've made loads of new friends through Usborne. It's lovely being part of a very positive and motivated bunch of people. I'm having my busiest November yet and earning lots of money for Christmas and an extended trip to Oz in January- how could I possibly do that with a 9-5 job?

RE: Working from home works!!
Hi there,
I must agree working from home is definately the way forward and has certainly made me more organised! ![]() There really are lots of oportunities out there which I never knew about before becoming pregnant with my first child. Here is one I would like to share with you. Simple are looking for a new candidate for the Search for a Simple Star competition. Basically someone to be the face of their skincare products and to promote the brand online. You can win a package worth up to £50k for what is essentially part time work. Why not give it a go if your still deciding on what career to take? here is the link http://www.simple.co.uk/star Good Luck, someone has to win it

RE: Working from home works!!
I work from home writing modules for online diplomas which I can do when it suits me along with marking the assignments.
I think the Simple Competition is great as at least it looks like an interesting job which would be really suitable for Mums. I can't see many Mums on there though so get applying ladies at http:/www.simple.co.uk/star AnnB |

Hi Dizzy just read your post and all the replies and I'm feeling inspired! I work part time at the moment only 3 days a week but my goal is to get an online business up and running very soon. Just to be able to do the school run every day would be amazing and to not have to leave my little ones and go to work, when they are poorly and all they want is their Mum! Thanks for the post, Emily

RE: Working from home works!!
Emily, if you are looking to set up a business online then I recommend Bernadette Doyle's client magnets newsletter, plus join one of her groups if you want very sensible advice and inspiration from someone who has been there, done it, works 3 days a week and has two very young children (and is now a single Mum).
Lisa, I think it is a real shame that there are not more Mums on the Simple Star competition! Fair enough for the under 18 category, but for the over 18s that means people are missing out on a great opportunity so I hope the Mums on this forum give it some consideration. Someone has to win after all!! |
